Week 13 is here. The final week before most fantasy playoffs begin. Your teams are likely in one of three scenarios as we play out the final week of the fantasy regular season. Some teams are locked into a playoff spot already. Other teams are still fighting for the playoffs and a win gets them in. Finally, there are those teams that are completely out of the running with seemingly nothing to fight for. If you have a team in that is in the latter scenario you still have a very important part to play; the role of the spoiler. In this writer's opinion, the role of the spoiler is almost as fun as getting into the playoffs. You hold another team's destiny in your hands. If you can get a win in the final week and prevent another team from getting into the playoffs, that is almost as sweet as making it yourself. Relish the role of the spoiler and do everything you can this final week to make sure your opponent doesn't get a free win and a trip to the playoffs.
In the past several weeks we have looked at the best playoff matchups for RB, WR, TE, and D/ST. This week we look at the best matchups for quarterbacks in weeks 14-16
Week 14:
1. Peyton Manning @ Raiders 2. Eli Manning vs Saints 3. RG3 vs Ravens 4. Colin Kaepernick vs Dolphins 5. Josh Freeman vs Eagles
Honorable mention (if he is playing): Michael Vick @ Buccaneers
RG3 and Peyton are every week locks at this point, so no real need to discuss them.both have good to great matchups throughout the fantasy playoffs. Eli has a particularly great matchup against the Saints in week 14. This should be a high scoring affair with both QBs having success through the air. Kaepernick gets a weak Dolphins secondary at home. He also gives us that potential for a rushing touchdown. The Eagles have completely thrown in the towel at this point and Freeman has been on fire as a low end QB1 the last several weeks. Tampa will likely still be in the hunt for the last wildcard spot at this point in the season and will have that extra motivation. If Vick is back under center then he is worth a start against the Buccaneers and their 32nd ranked pass defense.
Week 15:
1. Drew Brees vs Buccaneers 2. Josh Freeman @ Saints 3. Matt Ryan vs Giants 4. RG3 @ Browns 5. Peyton Manning @ Ravens
Honorable Mention: Russell Wilson @ Bills
Are we seeing a trend here? Any talented QB against the Saints and Bucs are great matchups. The Giants pass rush is fearsome, but their secondary is weak. Matt Ryan should have a nice game in week 15 if the offensive line can stymie the pass rush and keep him on his feet. The training wheels have been coming off of Russell Wilson the last couple of weeks and i see that trend continuing. He is still a matchup play and has a good one in week 15 against the Bills. If you don't have an elite option then you could do a lot worse than rolling out the rookie.
Week 16
1. Aaron Rodgers vs Titans 2. Tony Romo @ Saints 3. Peyton Manning vs Browns 4. Tom Brady @ Jaguars 5. RG3 @ Eagles
Honorable mention(if he is playing): Michael Vick vs Redskins
If you have any of these QBs outside of Vick and Romo you are starting them every week already anyway, but Rodgers, Brady, RG3, and Peyton Manning all have particularly great matchups in the fantasy superbowl. If you have any of those four you have a big advantage over your opponent.
Romo gets the Saints in week 16 and it should be another high scoring game. If you are facing a team with an elite QB then getting Romo in your lineup is your best option.
Good luck in week 13. As always feel free to ask questions in the weekly thread or hit me up on twitter @MPricer
