Dynasty/Keeper report – Week 11

By Chris Goudey

We are now at the point in the season where you are either a contender or a pretender, but if you’re in a keeper or dynasty league you should be paying attention even if your team is out of it for this season.  If this is the case then you really should be trying to trade as many veterans as you can for young players and/or draft picks, if applicable.  These veteran players didn’t help your team win this season, so what makes you think they’re going to help you next year?

As an example, in one league I’m in, a team that’s out of it for the year just dealt Peyton Manning for Russell Wilson, Ronnie Hillman, and Jeremy Kerley.  To me that is exactly the type of deal a team with no chance should be making.  All three of the players the team acquired will be kept in this league (full dynasty, meaning all players are kept) and should provide beneficial for the next 5-10 years.  Peyton may only have another two or three years left and he wasn’t going to win this team a title anyway.

If you are in this situation (hopefully you aren’t but even the best of us have a bad season every now and then) then the following is a list of players that should be targeted for a rebuilding effort because their value, while not great now, should be much better in a couple of years:
QBs (in order of preference):

Jake Locker, TEN (Could be a Steve Young-type by next season)

Sam Bradford, STL (Rams are going to improve greatly the next two years with all the Redskins’ picks)

Ryan Tannehill, MIA (Smart and accurate passer)

Russell Wilson, SEA (Very similar to Locker but size concerns drop him a bit)

Christian Ponder, MIN (Inconsistent so far but has the talent)

Brandon Weeden, CLE (Impressive considering the talent around him)

Colin Kaepernick, SF (Looked very good replacing Alex Smith this week, has been learning the last two years)

Nick Foles, PHL (has his chance now, could be his job going forward)

Ryan Mallett, NE (he and Osweiler learning behind the best)

Brock Osweiler, DEN

RB:

Ryan Mathews, SD (too talented to continue this mediocre play)

Ben Tate, HOU (Arian Foster a free agent after next season)

Daryl Richardson, STL (Richardson, Hillman, and Hunter all waiting behind older backs)

Mikel LeShoure, DET (may never be great in a PPR but should score plenty of TDs)

Robert Turbin, SEA (once he gets a starting job he’ll be a top-10 back)

Ronnie Hillman, DEN

Kendall Hunter, SF

David Wilson, NYG (incredibly explosive, just needs carries)

Bernard Pierce, BAL (has looked very strong spelling Rice)

Ryan Williams, ARZ (if he could ever stay healthy would be the feature back)

Mark Ingram, NO (has finally started to look like he did in college)

Jacquizz Rodgers, ATL (Turner on his last legs)

Andre Brown, NYG (had games where he looked like a beast, lots of competition here though)

Shaun Draughn, KC (been an excellent backup to Charles)

Alex Green, GB (has the talent, just needs consistent carries)

Bilal Powell, NYJ (Shonn Greene not wowing anyone, could get a shot at the end of the year)

Bryce Brown, PHL (excellent backup to McCoy)

WR:

Cecil Shorts, JAX (is probably already taken but get him now if available)

Titus Young, DET (like Shorts, probably gone already but will see a ton of passes opposite

Megatron)

Kendall Wright, TEN (has an excellent rapport with Locker)

T.Y. Hilton, IND (will be Andrew Luck’s #1 target in a couple of years)

Josh Gordon, CLE (will be the #1 target for Weeden next season)

Alshon Jeffery, CHI (should see a lot of single coverage in the future opposite Brandon

Marhsall)

Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill, Clyde Gates, NYJ (all three just need a better QB throwing them the ball)

Vincent Brown, SD (was in line to be a starter in the pre-season before his injury)

Julian Edelman, NE (Welker can leave after the season)

T.J. Graham, BUF (burner, just needs more experience

Mohamed Sanu, CIN (about to become the #2 behind A.J. Green)

Keshawn Martin, Devier Posey, Lestar Jean, HOU (Johnson and Walter both on the downside of their careers, at least one of these guys will probably be starting next season)

Devon Wylie, KC (deep sleeper, could become #2 next season)

Rod Streater, OAK (has made some incredible catches in his rookie year)

Rueben Randle, NYG (we’ve seen how Victor Cruz blew up in the role Randle’s in right now)

Leonard Hankerson, WAS (could be the #2 for years to come if he can hold onto the ball)

Joe Morgan, NO (could become the #2 next season in the game’s best passing offense)

Jarius Wright, MIN (the best skill set to become the #2 opposite Percy Harvin)

Golden Tate, SEA (starting to really come on now)

Mario Manningham, SF (kind of been ignored this year, should get more looks next year if/when Randy Moss re-retires)

Chris Givens, STL  (one of the best deep threats in the league, should see many bombs thrown his way after the dinks and dunks to Danny Amendola)

Michael Floyd, ARZ (starting to emerge after struggling early in the year)

TE:

Rob Housler, ARZ (a future top-10 TE, has all the attributes)

Jordan Cameron, CLE (has the size and the hands to become elite)

Dwayne Allen, IND (could be the better of the two rookie TE in Indy but gets much less fanfare)

Tony Moeaki, KC (missed all of last season and has been pretty solid despite shoddy QB play

this year)

Lance Kendricks, STL (starting to put it together, Amendola being back will open up some spots for him)

Taylor Thompson, TEN (may actually be overtaking Jared Cook starting this week)

Julius Thomas, DEN (super-athletic, Peyton will find a way to use him next year)

Lardarius Green, SD (Gates will start slowing down in the next year or two, drafted to be his replacement)

If you can make a couple of deals like the one I outlined above (dealing veteran stars for a package of youngsters with upside) then your dynasty/keeper league team should be loaded for bear in the next couple of years!

New to the list:
Jon Baldwin, KC – 3 rec., 62 yds., 0 TD, 6 targets.  Baldwin was thought to be the Chiefs #2 WR coming into the pre-season but stunk up the joint in August.  He had a nice 2nd half in garbage time for KC though, so maybe there’s some hope there.

Julian Edelman, NE – 5 rec., 50 yds., 0 TD, 6 targets.  Edelman actually started over Wes Welker Sr. this week and now with the injury to Aaron Hernandez, should be counted on to get those tough over-the-middle catches that Rob Gronkowski doesn’t get.  Edelman is only 26, another guy that’s been around a few years but is still young.  Welker did very well with 11 targets, so there is room for Edelman to continue getting looks alongside him, and could very well replace him by next season the way things are going.

Last week’s heroes, this week’s zeros:

Alshon Jeffery, CHI – 1 rec., 7 yds., 2 targets; Donald Jones, BUF --1 rec., -1 yd., 3 targets; Rod Streater, OAK – 2 rec., 19 yds., 4 targets; Cecil Shorts, JAX, 0 rec., 2 targets; Kevin Ogletree, DAL – 1 rec, 26 yds., 1 target; Stephen Hill, NYJ – 0 rec., 2 targets

Holding steady:

Dexter McCluster, KC – 4 rec., 32 yds., 5 targets; Aldrick Robinson, WAS --2 rec., 40 yds., 3 targets; Emmanuel Sanders, PIT – 3 rec. 33 yds., 4 targets; Jeremy Kerley, NYJ – 2 rec., 67 yds., 4 targets

Ones to watch:

Leonard Hankerson, WAS – 2 rec., 68 yds., 1 TD, 3 targets; Golden Tate, SEA – 3 rec., 38 yds., 4 targets; Damian Williams, TEN – 4 rec., 45 yds., 6 targets;

TE:

Kyle Rudolph, MIN – 3 rec., 35 yds, 1 TD, 5 targets.  Rudolph was on my list last week as someone who was probably gone but I actually saw him available in a few of my leagues, so maybe he still is in yours.  He shouldn’t be though, because he’s the #2 option for Ponder.

Dennis Pitta, BAL – 8 rec., 65 yds., 0 TD, 15 targets.   Sure hope you grabbed Pitta last week because you won’t get him after this week.  He now has 13 rec., 138 yds., and 24 targets in 2 weeks.  He is now Joe Flacco’s #1 target and looks to be a viable starter in fantasy at TE

Martellus Bennett, NYG – 5 rec., 72 yds., 1 TD, 10 targets.   The sad thing is that Bennett’s numbers could be even better, as he dropped 2 easy passes (including a TD).  That’s 9 catches and 2 TD for Bennett so far and Eli loves throwing to the TE.

Brandon Myers, OAK – 6 rec., 86 yds., 0 TD, 6 targets.  Myers has now had 11 targets and 11 catches so far for 149 yards.  Going to assume Carson Palmer continues to throw to a guy who catches everything.

Happy hunting on your waiver wire this week!
