Hit or Miss – Pre-Season Prediction Review

With basically one quarter of the 2012 season in the books, it’s time to hold my own feet to the fire and see how my pre-season predictions are holding up.

As usual, I've got some ranting to do before I get around to the pickups.

1. Another uninspiring Matt Stafford performance last week, his fourth in a row. He hasn't thrown more than one TD in a game, and he didn't throw any against the Vikings in Week 4. But look deeper – his completion rate on the season (65.9 percent) is actually higher than it was in last year's big breakout, he's still averaging 295.5 yards per game, and his three bad games have come against the Niners (the consensus best defense coming into this season), the Vikings (just beat the Niners and have as good a defensive line as anyone) and the Rams (surprisingly one of the better pass defenses in the league – eight picks and just two TDs allowed through the air). Things will get better.

Love Him or List Him: Heath Miller

Just to be clear, Love Him doesn’t mean refuse a trade that will blow your doors off.  No player is untradeable if the price is right.  And List Him doesn’t mean trade him for a sack of dirty jock straps.  Try and trade him for what his current value is worth.

If you’ve read my previous articles about Individual Defensive Player leagues (IDP), then you know that I think these leagues are much more fun than standard leagues, where you’re only worrying about offensive players, kickers, and team defenses.  That being said, probably 90% of the leagues out there don’t include IDPs in their leagues, but for those 10% that participate in them, this is the weekly column for you!

A few observations to lead off today's pickups:

1. I had this all written before the end of the Monday night game, and then… wow. I have never seen a poorer ending to a football game, ever. I have never seen a quarterback throw a game-winning interception. The NFL through three weeks is a joke. The referee lockout has to end. Period.
