Love Him or List Him: Cecil Shorts III
Just to be clear, Love Him doesn’t mean refuse a trade that will blow your doors off. No player is untradeable if the price is right. And List Him doesn’t mean trade him for a sack of dirty jock straps. Try and trade him for what his current value is worth.

It seems wrong to write anything about football without making note of the unimaginable tragedy in Kansas City last weekend. I suspect we won't really know why the Jovan Belcher murder-suicide happened for a while – maybe never – but it's a sobering reminder that maybe we shouldn't like football so much. Reports have come out that Belcher was suffering from concussion symptoms, and you have got to wonder how much "getting his bell rung" over and over again had to do with what happened. Not to mention how Romeo Crennel actually managed to coach a football game so soon after seeing that.

Love Him or List Him: Bryce Brown / Colin Kaepernick
This column was originally going to be just about Colin Kaepernick, who took over for the injured Alex Smith two weeks ago and has become the darling of NFL media types everywhere it seems. But Bryce Brown’s impressive debut on Monday made me think that with most leagues having only two weeks left before the fantasy playoffs, owners need to know as much as possible about him before making what could be a team altering decision whether to start him.

When giving advice on who to play I prefer not to say ‘Start player x’ or ‘Sit player y’ because I don’t know who everyone has on their bench. Telling you to sit a borderline QB when all the options available to you in your league are worse doesn’t do you much good. So instead I’ll make references to the classic spaghetti western. Assume the players who aren’t mentioned here should produce within their usual point range.

Cam Newton is my savior. You won't find him on the wire, but there are several intriguing young players likely available for this week's claims in your league.
