This is the next column in an ongoing series over the off season, predicting who will be starting at each position in 2013. Of course there will be many changes based on the results of the draft in April, as well as other happenings during the off season, so I’ll re-visit each column later in the summer. But for those of us in dynasty and keeper leagues, some shrewd moves early in the off season based on forward thinking can really pay off. In this column we’ll take a look at the quarterback position in the NFC. A lot less volatile than the AFC for sure, but where there are questions as to who will start it is almost a crapshoot. The predictions are who will be the starting QB for that team on opening day 2013.

Congratulations to all of those who won their fantasy championships. For those of you in the rare leagues that play all the way to week 17, good luck in your finals. In keeper and dynasty leagues now’s as good a time as any to start looking to the future. It’s a good idea to compile information and form opinions based on what is happened this season while it’s still fresh in our minds. Too often the news becomes distorted over the off season as slow news cycles cause small tidbits of information, good or bad, to get overblown.

To illustrate how poorly the Detroit Lions played in 2012, look no further than Calvin Johnson’s stats. At 6-5 and 236 lbs, Johnson caught 122 balls for an NFL record 1,964 yards. Having a receiver that puts up nearly 2,000 yards and still managing to finish 4-12 is remarkably bad. At this rate, the Lions may have people second guessing that the NFL is now strictly a passing league. Not only did Johnson set a record for yardage, but quarterback Matthew Stafford also broke the single season record for passing attempts.

The fantasy Super Bowl is upon us and the decisions you make this week will determine if you are a champion or just another runner-up that no one remembers. The advice that follows are general recommendations across all scoring formats. When in doubt choose the player in a better offense with a better matchup. Choose the player that you feel good about going to the final battle with because you are the one that has to live with your choices. For clarifications and further analysis when comparing players please post in the week 16 thread or message me on twitter @MPricer
