Kickers?!? Oh, @*(&)*($ We have to draft some of those, don't we?
It is important to be in the know on the comings and goings of fantasy relevant players. This offseason saw much movement in this regard, including some heavy hitters. In our continuing series, we have broken down players with new addresses by position, and what effect this change may have on their fantasy outlook. We now conclude with the kickers.
David Akers: 49ers to Lions.
Former Eagle and 49er struggled badly with accuracy last season, missing 13 kicks. Finds new home in Detroit, where he will replace longtime veteran Jason Hanson. Accuracy should return, and points will flow.
Josh Brown: Bengals to Giants.
Former Seahawk and Ram kicked in four games with the Bengals last season. Will replace Lawrence Tynes in New York. Tynes attempted 39 field goals last season, so opportunities should be there. Good situation here.
Dan Carpenter: Dolphins to Cardinals to Jets to Bills
Former Dolphin was recently acquired by Arizona to provide competition for Jay Feely. He was subsequently released four days later. But wait, he was just picked up by the Jets to compete with Nick Folk. Whoa, now he's filling in for the Bills, maybe, while rookie Dustin Hopkins heals up or maybe gets released while they keep Carpenter. Who knows...
Billy Cundiff: Redskins to Jets to Browns?
The well-traveled veteran flamed out in Washington last season, and was signed to challenge Nick Folk for the starting gig in New York. However, he was just released. Currently out of a job, but this is always subject to change. Quickly, as in any moment now Cleveland could sign him.
Phil Dawson: Browns to 49ers.
Longtime Brown replaces David Akers in San Francisco. Set career best for accuracy last season, and was perfect from long distance. Should be prolific with increased attempts.
Shayne Graham: Texans to Browns to FA?
Replaces Dawson in Cleveland after one pretty decent year in Houston. Unlikely to match point total from last season, but should fare reasonably well. Nevermind, he was cut - but he might be brought back, Cleveland hasn't decided.
Rian Lindell: Bills to Buccaneers.
Longtime Bill released after losing starting gig to rookie, and then almost immediately picked up by Tampa to replace the injured Lawrence Tynes. Does not have job wrapped up just yet, but appears to have a leg up (pun).
Lawrence Tynes: Giants to Buccaneers
Former Giant had huge 2012 season, and then moved on to Tampa. However, he has been diagnosed with a serious staph infection and is out indefinitely.
